~The Bottle of Cotton~
I wanted to wrap you in cotton the day you were born and put you away inside of a bottle on so many sad days. Somewhere safe, warm and cradled, and out of harm’s way.
Like a precious tiny jewel under glass, or some small rare treasure that I could look at, and marvel, and measure.
And when all was quiet, and we were alone, when nothing was hurting my heart or my home, I would take you out and have the joy that you were my mine, just meant for me, and then quickly put you back for safekeeping from life’s stormy seas.
I’ll wrap you in cotton my sweet little love. Let’s wait until I’m older and wiser and ready, when I’m braver and more grown and not so unsteady.
My safe little bundle, my smallest of gems. Although you were jostled by all the rough waves, I could wait to take you out again on some gentler day.
I’ll wrap you in cotton and put you away, where you will be safe and sound and out of harm’s way. Then I’ll tenderly take you out in secret and hold you near. Could this maybe be the day my dear?
