~Comfort in the Silence~

You made me feel like a woman, wise in her years.
Then like a child knowing nothing.

I was confident, then unsure. Capable, then clumsy.
I felt like I was your oldest friend, your confidant.
Then as if I were a stranger whom you dare not let in.

Feeling privileged for the time that I was brought close.
Wishing you would do it again.

I can think of you and remember so many words you said, things that you did, and laugh out loud anywhere or feel tears in my eyes at the thought.
Some sweet moment caught there, saved in a place that will never be lost.

I made you feel like a man, then like a little boy.
You were sure of yourself and then not quite so sure.
Strong, and then inadequate.

Anger, tempers flare, and yet a pleasure in the confrontation.

At times a light in our eyes and a smile at the corners of our mouths as we pretended.

Like trying to keep our balance and walk through an earthquake was the time that we spent together.

Disciplined, then praised. Chastised, then complimented.
To have felt so sure, and then be caught off guard.

You made me feel.
I allowed you to.

You poured out to me the center of your heart, to the tears that were kept there waiting for a release.
How could you know that I needed to cry too?

I let you be yourself, and then watched you as you were caught in the caution of feeling that way, your eyes changing in an instant.
Full of light and laughter, and then a brooding storm.

There was even comfort in the silence, in the quiet.
Not feeling that every moment had to be full of words, and when we spoke, it was about something that mattered.
