~ Evening Flight ~
Lavender skies at sunset. Black hills and trees.
The water catches the last fading light of the evening.
Gliding silently you see them coming from far away until they are overhead.
Black, graceful bodies and arched necks against the lavender sky, their outline a lovely silhouette, they fly on intent in their purpose.
The call in their hearts is undeniable and they would die willingly to complete it.
Their pairing is for a life.
Even in the beat of their wings is the sound of a mournful bird.
And just as you begin to be in awe of their flight above you, they are leaving you behind, even more quickly than they had come.
You stand looking up with a feeling of excitement, and a fullness at the wonderment of life; almost wishing you could go along and learn to have a heart as brave and as certain.
